Oppose Governor Christie’s Decision

Not to Reappoint Justice Wallace

As your elected representatives to the State Legislature, we want to express our disapproval of Governor Christie’s decision not to reappoint Justice John Wallace, the only African American serving on the New Jersey Supreme Court. Christie is the first Governor in our history to not reappoint a serving Justice. His decision is both reckless and undermines the independence of the Judiciary.

New Jersey’s highest court should reflect the diversity of our state. Christie’s decision to remove Justice Wallace from the bench erodes the progress we’ve made.

The Governor’s reckless politicization of the reappointment process is also cause for alarm. Our Constitution protects the independence of the Courts so that Judges will determine cases based on the merits of law and not by political persuasion.

Please join us in opposing Governor Christie’s decision not to reappoint Justice Wallace. You can sign our online petition here.
